My son took his car in for a diagnostic check, and it took them three weeks and two days to identify the problem and return it. The repair estimate was extremely expensive, and the car was returned in worse condition than when he brought it in. What was supposed to be a simple diagnostic service turned into a frustrating experience. Terrible service.

I truly wish I could give AASTRO Transmission no stars. This place treated my situation as an opportunity to get a lot of cash from someone who didn't know better.
I brought my Subaru Forester here in April after multiple (unrelated) dash lights came on simultaneously during my commute. After some googling that said this could be caused by a transmission censor, I called AASTRO for an external diagnosis. The next day, I am called to gain permission for them to disassemble my transmission as they couldn't diagnose any external issues. Later that same day, I am called by Ray telling me that my ENTIRE transmission is shot and will need to be replaced.
Ray reported that the only comparable rate in Tucson is at the dealership for $12,000 but that AASTRO can do it for $8,000. I was also told by both Ray and Manny that no other shop in the area fixes this type of transmission, that there are minimal transmission shops here to begin with, and that they will "take care of me, don't worry". As I bought the car for $9,500 a year ago, it was not an option for me to pay $8,000.
After requesting for them to put my transmission back together so that I can tow it to my house and figure something else out, Manny stammered that this is not possible but also magically will take 15 hours of labor and I will need to cover the cost for gaskets or something to complete (which will cost $500-1000). All of this is told to me at 5:30 PM on a Friday.
Monday comes and I contact other mechanics in the area, because red flags have obviously come up for me during this experience. Manny calls me a few hours after these calls are made as him and Ray somehow find it in their hearts to not charge me for the cost it took to disassemble my car. OH and that my car was reassembled and driveable!
At pickup, I question Manny on how they were able to reassemble it after I was told both that it couldn't be done AND that it would take 15 hours to complete. He said that the "guys next door" (that also work at AASTRO) take the transmission to that garage and that he wasn't sure what had happened.
This entire experience I only ever talked to Manny, Ray, and one guy from finance. Each one of them repeatedly told me that my car is not able to be driven, my transmission was taken apart, and somehow they didn't know what the root problem was because the "guys next door" worked on it. Every time I referenced a previous phone call, they all made it abundantly clear that the conversations were recorded and that they can be used to back up whatever they had previously told me.
I was lied to, threatened, and scammed by these people. They told me they were giving me a break because I was "emotional" after crying on the phone because the cost would wipe out my savings on a car I just bought. I suspect their actual reasoning was hearing that I had contacted other shops and questions were being raised about the legality of the situation. I bet my car sat in the parking lot, untouched, for days.
After taking it to a standard mechanic's shop, I learned that the issue was a censor OUTSIDE of the transmission and a recommended flush of the transmission fluid. I paid $840 and my car was back to me in less than 48 hours.
My advice: never trust a company that tells you that there are no other options, doesn't give you a direct diagnosis, and to keep being emotional (even when it makes men uncomfortable). These people treated me horribly and karma will take care of it.

I am military member in the local Tucson area and I needed to fix my Mazda cx-5 because it was slipping. I called AASTRO and brought it in the same day on Friday. I was met with kindness and was told I’d get an answer by Monday. Monday comes I don’t get a call so I call them an hour before they close. They answer telling me they don’t have an answer. Throughout that week I was constantly playing phone tag and was getting told I’d get an answer but never got one until Thursday. That day I got told I’d need to give authorization for a “tear down” because they still didnt know the issue. I gave it and didn’t get an answer until the following week on Tuesday. Upon calling them myself they tell me I need a new transmission and quote me 7k for a used one without explaining to me why or providing any photos upon request. I decline and tell them to put my car back together for a second opinion. Manny confirms it’ll be together by Monday. Come Monday I call, Ray tells me they only need a part and then they’ll rebuild the tranny. I restated that I didn’t authorize this and told them I requested my car to be put back together and they failed at that. I confirmed with Manny multiple times before paying that the car was put back together the way it came in. He said yes and so it was towed to the new shop. I receive a call from BORST Automotive that the tranny is not in the vehicle. I go in the next day and ask what happened. Manny looked confused and stated “my bad that’s on me”. I asked why it wasn’t in the vehicle and he said “we don’t rebuild trannys” I asked why wasn’t I told that at the beginning? He said “my bad”. Upon receiving the tranny it was in pieces after they told me they put it back together. This shop has terrible communication, poor management and shady practices. What could’ve been a week long $500 fix turned into a month long headache that costed me $4k.

I brought my vehicle to Aastro Transmission on February 28, 2025, because it was overheating and was told they could diagnose and repair the issue. Over the last 6 months, I have paid approximately $7,000 and have had to bring the vehicle back multiple times because the problem was never fully resolved.
Each time I got the vehicle back, I was told it was fixed, but the issue continued. I spent months trying to work with the shop and have even replaced and repaired other parts in an attempt to solve the problem. Despite all the time and money invested, my vehicle is still not properly repaired.
Communication was also very poor. I rarely received updates and usually had to contact the shop myself. They also had me buy a$1,000 fan saying that it would resolve the issue and it unfortunately didn’t.
This has been an extremely frustrating experience. After 6 months, thousands of dollars spent, and multiple return visits, I still do not have confidence that the original issue was correctly diagnosed or repaired. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop
( They also had me make a payment before they looked at car that’s when I should’ve know)

Incompetent service, dangerous mistakes, and zero accountability.
I took my 2018 Ford F-150 to this shop in April 2026 for a transmission filter replacement. A few months later, during a hot trip to Phoenix, the truck vented transmission fluid all over the undercarriage. I brought it back to them for a diagnosis. After keeping it for a day, they claimed the transmission was "reaching 199 degrees too quickly" and insisted on a costly Full RDI (Remove, Disassemble, and Inspect).
Red flags went up immediately. A basic search shows 199°F is perfectly within normal operating temperature for this Ford 10-speed, and the truck was shifting flawlessly. I refused the service. Within an hour, the owner called back offering a 10% discount to pressure me into the RDI.
I refused again and towed my truck to a Ford dealership. Ford's certified technicians connected a scanner, test drove it, and confirmed the transmission was operating normally. However, they found the real issue: the transmission was overfilled.
Upon reviewing this shop's original paperwork, I discovered two critical, disqualifying errors:
1. They filled it with Valvoline MV ATF, which is completely incompatible with Ford's 10-speed transmission (which strictly requires Mercon ULV).
2. They billed for 7 quarts of fluid, which is grossly overfilled for a standard pan drop.
This shop used the wrong fluid, overfilled the system, caused the vehicle to vent fluid, and then tried to scam me into an expensive, unnecessary teardown based on normal operating temperatures.
I demanded reimbursement for the towing, Ford's diagnostic fee, and the cost to flush the incorrect fluid. They have completely ignored my calls. They have also completely ignored a formal consumer complaint filed through the Arizona Attorney General's office.
